According to the decision of the Presidium higher certifying commission Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (№6/6, 19 February 2010) the «Herald of an archivist» included in the List of key scientific editions. This List has been founded for publication key scientific results of dissertations.
An issue comes out 4 times in a year (1 issue in a quarter).
It is included in a system of Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI).

Russian historic-archival journal «Herald of an archivist» publishes scientific articles in the following scientific areas: documentation, scientific discipline of documentation, archival science – 05.25.02; historiography, source study and methods of historical research – 07.00.09; Russian history – 07.00.02; World history – 07.00.03.

This journal is registered by Federal service for supervision of mass communication, relations and the protection of cultural heritage. The certificate of registration PI number FS77-32230 from 7.06.2008; Journal’s founder is Russian society of historians and archivists, which exists from the 13th of November 1990.
The journal realizes dataware of research, methodological and organizational activity of Russian society of historians and archivists and Russian Archive.
The publication of materials purports to departmental and professional association of archivists, museums, libraries, members of scientific institutes, universities and other higher education institutions of the country, historians, archivists, local historians, as well as dissemination of historical and archival knowledge through the publication of historical sources and their introduction into scientific circulation.

Certificates of Russian Archive, which don’t need official registration according to the decision of Department of Justice in RF, have to be published in quarterly journal «Herald of an archivist» (Order of Federal archival agency № 30 from 2.07.2008). Publication in «Herald of an archivist» is official.
